The date was July 19, 2012. Former Flyers GM Paul Holmgren was about to try pull off the richest offer sheet in NHL history and what would have looked like the deal of a lifetime, an offer was made to the Nashville Predators to 26-year-old Defenseman Shea Weber. Let's look into the details.

It would have been the highest contract to date. Clocking it at $110 million dollars over the course of 14 years, it surpassed the previous record of $50 million that was offered and accepted to Thomas Vanek for a 7-year deal.
The Offer
The Flyers would have received 26-year-old Shea Weber, sending four first round picks they would've sent to Nashville as compensation in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Those picks ended up being Samuel Morin, Travis Sanheim, Ivan Provorov and German Rubtsov. Two of those four players are current players of the Flyers defense, including Provorov, their current top defenseman. Rubstov was a complete "bust" and Morin was forced in retirement but is assisting in development coaching with the team.

The Outcome
The Nashville predators matched what the Flyers had offered 5 days later, and Shea Weber remained a Pred until he weas dealt to the Canadians in 2016. The Flyers missed to capitalize on any top free agent that year. Available was Zach Parise, Shea Weber and Suter.
How different would the Flyers look 10 years later if this move would have gone down? Guess we will never know.
