In a recent interview with Matej Deraj, recent Habs first round draft pick Filip Mesar revealed why the Canadiens brass do not want him or Juraj Slafkovsky to attend the World Juniors this August.

According to Mesar, the Habs want their top prospects to focus on health and training this offseason rather than attend the prestigious tournament. The main reason, they do not want their guys to risk any injuries.
"The Canadiens want me to prepare well for the next season and not risk an injury. They told me I could make the decision but they don't want me to go. I'm still thinking about it, but I'll accept what they say", said Mesar.

In fact, second overall selection Simon Nemec was also not included in Slovakia's preliminary roster for the WJC.
Perhaps the Habs and Devils are looking at recent injuries such as the one suffered by Kirby Dach in the 2021 tournament versus Russia. The wrist injury required wrist surgery and kept the center and team captain out for 5 months.
Many fans are calling this a dumb move as injuries can occur in everyday life. In practice and in the gym, injuries may happen whenever. Plus, seeing three guys who have been playing against adults in European Leagues finally play against guys their age would be exciting. Especially the first overall pick.
Should the Flyers consider the same things with players like Cutter Gauthier?
