If you're a casual Philadelphia Flyers fan and hockey doesn't consume your life 24/7, you've probably never heard of Drew Helleson. At least not when we speak about the Colorado Avalanche.
As the trade deadline nears, Colorado has established themself as the leading candidate for Flyers captain
Claude Giroux. With a deep prospect pool, the names we usually think about when the Avalanche make trade talks are
Alex Newhook,
Bowen Byram, Connor Timmins etc.
Nobody ever thinks of defenceman Drew Helleson but that's exactly what's happened. Elliotte Friedman said recently on TJMS that Helleson was the main prospect in the Giroux talks.

«I think a prospect of interest to Philly is Drew Helleson, defenceman. He plays for Boston College and just played at the Olympics for the U.S. I've been told he's the kind of player that if Giroux goes to Colorado that we should be focusing on,» he said.
Dan Silver, a journalist and writer for the phillyisflyer website says that scout Scott Wheeler has Helleson as the Avs' 8th best prospect with bottom pair potential.
On twitter he wrote, «I'll be wholly disappointed if this is the centerpiece of the Giroux dealI want Barron and a first.»
The Flyers may be interested in Avalanche pick
Sean Behrens due to a connection to
Bobby Brink reports Meghan Angley, contributor to DNVR Avalanche.
«Sean Behrens and Flyers prospect, Bobby Brink, really gel on DU's PP, it wouldn't surprise me if Flyers are giving him a look. I'm told *IF* Giroux trade is to happen, he is someone they're looking at,» she tweeted.
Helleson who plays at Boston University has 18 points in 24 games while Behrens has 24 points in 25 games playing for the University of Denver.
