When fans think of the value of players in the NHL, many feel that the trades made for them are often undervalued or overvalued. The Kevin Hayes trade to the St Louis Blues has been a subject of discussion, as general manager Danny Briere only acquired a sixth-round pick in exchange for moving his money.

The Flyers, cross-state rivals of the Pittsburgh Penguins, recently traded to acquire Riley Smith from the Vegas Golden Knights. In this deal, the Flyers sent a third-round pick in the 2024 draft to the Golden Knights. The Golden Knights were looking to free up cap space to sign other
players.
In a tweet by FlyersFansZone, some Flyers fans argued that the team could have gotten more for Hayes, and I am one of them. While Smith is a winger, regardless of his point totals during the playoffs, centers like Hayes are valued due to their versatility.
I believe the Flyers could have obtained at least one prospect in the trade, in addition to the sixth-round pick, to make it appear more balanced. Interestingly, there has been a trend in recent weeks of players being traded for little or no value solely to clear cap space.
In the end, the Flyers were able to recoup $3.5 million and find Hayes a new home while continuing their rebuilding process.
