Whenever fans learn that their beloved announcer for their sport has decided to hang up his mic after a long career, it's always bittersweet. Whether it was Bob Cole of CBC for Canada or Mike "Doc" Emrick of NBC, fans grew up listening to voices that were comfortable and entertaining.

Steve Coates, also known as «Coatsey» by many Flyers fans has decided to hang up his microphone after 43 years of service to the Flyers organization.
Before his career on the radio and television, Coatsey played professional hockey and played five games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1976- 77 season. The 72-year-old was a right winger and was undrafted.

He was born in Toronto Ontario and his playing career stretched from 1973 to 1980. The bulk of his hockey career was spent in the minor leagues after he retired and decided to get into broadcasting.
From 1999 to 2011, Coates had a segment known as Coatsey's Corner which aired during the first intermission of Flyers broadcasts.
We wish Coatsey all the best in the new chapter of his life and thank you for the great service you provided.
