The next Connor McDavid with the Flyers?

Some people are saying that the Flyers didn't choose the right year to be bad. When we compare this year's draft with the one in 2023, there's clearly one who seems to be vastly superior.

And it isn't the one in 2022.

Of course, there's some very good player this year : Shane Wright, Logan Cooley, Simon Nemec, Juraj Slafkovsky, Matthew Savoie, Connor Geekie or David Jiricek all have a great future ahead of them.

However, the 2023 class could be one of the best in history. Just watch the stats of some eligible players for next year's draft.

In this draft, there's Connor Bedard. At 15 years old, he registered 28 points in 15 games last year with the Regina Pats in the WHL. This season, he has 92 points in 59 games.

It's just incredible. Connor Bedard has been compared multiple times to Connor McDavid. When you look at them at the same age, there isn't very much difference. Bedard has the potential to be a generational talent.

That's why I'm a bit irritated when I hear Fletcher talking about making the playoffs next season. Of course, finishing last in the league isn't a guarantee to have the 1st choice.

However, the Flyers have a lot of young players coming. Even with a healthy squad this season, the team wouldn't have made the playoffs. The only way for the Flyers to make the playoffs next season is for Fletcher to have the best summer in his career. And to be honest, it's not likely at all.

The best thing for the Flyers is to continue this reset. There's to much superstar potential in the 2023 Draft to override it. The best thing for Philadelphia is to continue to give their young core some ice time.

The Flyers needs a game changer and there's a lot of them in the 2023 Draft.
