Three important forwards could be gone by the summer

If the Flyers wants to be competitive next year, a lot of changes will have to be made this summer.

One of the big problem Chuck Fletcher will have is to make enough cap space in order to bring a new energy in his locker room. The main area where the team has to improve is the top-6. The good news is that there will be some very interesting players available : Vincent Trocheck, Johnny Gaudreau or Filip Forsberg - if they test the market this summer - should be players that the Flyers will look at.

But in order to sign them, you have to make some space under the cap available.

Anthony Di Marco suggested that Oskar Lindblom, James Van Riemsdyk and Travis Konecny should be shipped elsewhere in order to make those changes. Those three players will occupy $15.5M under the cap, so it's obviously a pig part of the payroll who is devoted to players who are giving underwhelming production to the team, especially Konecny and JVR.

Let's take the example of Konecny : he scored 24 goals in each seasons between 2017 and 2020. Since, he seem to have lost his scoring touch, putting the puck in the back of the net the same amount of time, but in two campaigns - 11 last year and 13 this season.

Let me be clear : the path that Fletcher wants to take isn't the good one. They need to rebuild for the next 2 years (minimum) in order to become once again a threat in the NHL. And doing this "aggressive retool" will probably be a devastating thing for the organization in the long term.
