Tony DeAngelo recently signed a one-year contract worth $1.67 million with the Carolina Hurricanes, which was facilitated by Don Waddell.

Previously, DeAngelo was a regular defenseman for the Philadelphia Flyers, but towards the end of his tenure, he was benched by coach John Tortorella more often than he would have liked.
"The coach and I wound up not fitting together, I guess that would be the main reason."

The Flyers traded for DeAngelo and traded away three draft picks, only to buy him out a few months later due to reports of tension within the locker room.

Although DeAngelo is known for his offensive contributions, he is also considered a defensive liability.
Tortorella emphasized the importance of a 200-foot playing style that includes both forechecking and backchecking, but DeAngelo failed to deliver on those expectations. The strained relationship between DeAngelo and Tortorella, as well as other members of the Flyers management, likely contributed to his departure.
Returning to the Carolina Hurricanes, with whom he played in the postseason, DeAngelo has a positive relationship with head coach Rod Brind'Amour, though media coverage of their interactions has been limited.
He joins a talented blue line, featuring Dmitry Orlov, Brady Skjei, Jaccob Slavin, Brett Pesce, and Brent Burns.
During the 2021-2022 season, DeAngelo played 64 games for the Hurricanes and scored 51 points.
He will undoubtedly aim to replicate that level of production during his time in Carolina.
