The Minnesota Wild have considered trading defenseman Matt Dumba for a while. With the soon impending trade deadline approaching, the Wild want to get something for the soon-to-be UFA blueliner.

The Regina, Saskatchewan native has averaged 0.42 points per game over his 10-year NHL career. This season, his scoring is down to just 0.29 points per game.
That isn't the reason the Wild want to move him though. It's always about the salary cap, and in the Minnesota's club case, they are not doing too well financially.
They have two players who were given exorbitant contracts (13 years, $98M) and were bought out last year. That will cost them approximately $42 million over the next three years, and that really limits their capability to re-sign or sign new players.

Dumba is earning $6 million and will be an UFA after this season. With just $3.4 million in available cap space, they need to move some contracts to be able to breathe as an organization.
Dumba has been in trade rumors before, and has to realize that he may certainly be moved this time around.
So, if GM Bill Guerin decided to move Dumba, what could he get in return? If you have been following the new of late, there is a young forward on the Vancouver Canucks by the name of Brock Boeser available.
This would surely help the lack of scoring the Wild have been experiencing. The Wild are 17th in the league in scoring with an average of 3.13 goals per game.
Boeser has no trade clauses, so Vancouver can move him where they please. He has averaged 0.79 points per game going into his seventh season. Over that span, he has scored 20 or more goals four different times.
Dumba could possibly help the floundering Canucks who rank a dismal 30th in defense, allowing 3.85 goals a game. Adding Dumba could give them some defensive responsibility.
Boeser is earning $6.65 million through the 2024-25 season, so the salaries are very close. It may just be a trade which helps out both clubs.
One thing is certain, Dumba and his $6M cap hit must be addressed before the trade deadline.
Look for him to be moved before that time.
