When head coach John Tortorella was brought to the Flyers by former president and general manager Chuck Fletcher, the expectations were that he would demonstrate to this underperforming team how to play the game of hockey according to his vision.

Torts is a proponent of defence-first teaching and believes that it's the best approach to winning hockey games. Protecting the back end creates opportunities for the offence to flourish and score as many goals as possible.
As he enters his second season as head coach, he and his staff were present during the summer when the Flyers hosted a rookies camp. The camp outlined the expectations for him and clarified what the players needed to do to earn a roster spot in the upcoming season.

The Flyers have numerous players within their organization who could secure full-time positions with the team. Players like Tyson Forester, Amelie Andre, Elliot Denoia, Bobby Brink, and Egor Zamula will have opportunities to showcase their skills and contribute to their coach's strategies.
Torts has had a successful coaching career in the NHL, having worked with five different organizations, including the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Flyers.
He boasts an impressive coaching record of 1465 games, with 704 wins, 517 losses, and 37 ties. He has also made twelve playoff appearances, securing one Stanley Cup victory with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Additionally, he has won the Coach of the Year award, and the Jack Adams Trophy, twice.
With new players joining the organization and the rebuild in full swing, I anticipate that Tortorella will have a better season this year than last.
