22-year-old defenseman Nils Lundkvist made it clear that he is seeking a trade out of New York. Now, with no movement on a trade in the horizon, he has decided to skip the Rangers training camp.
Although pegged to be a good offensive blueliner, he failed to prove that last season with just one goal and fours assists in 25 games.
He obviously wants more playing time to prove himself and a trade may be the fresh start he needs to get motivated.

General manager Chris Drury was asked about Lundkvist at the start of rookie camp and didn't have much to say.
I don't really have any update on it, Drury said per NY Post's Mollie Walker. Obviously, we think he's a real good player. We drafted him. We've worked with him the last number of years. We certainly hope he's here next week.
Lundkvist, 22, was taken 28th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft and has two years left on his entry-level contract with an AAV of $925,000.
Teams who have expressed interest in the young defenseman include the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, and the Montreal Canadiens.
Whether a deal can be consummated remains to be seen. Lundkvist will remain in Sweden working out and hoping to hear he's been traded.
Of course, this whole senario could blow up in Lundkvist's face. He should have decided to appear at camp, and show his skills off which could increase his trade value. Right now, it's pretty low or else he would have been traded already.
He could be asked to report to Hartford, and if he refuses he will be suspended. The final outcome could be he gets loaned to SHL team Lulea where can play until the next trade deadline hits on March 3.
Lesson to be learned by Lundkvist: Don't mess with GM Chris Drury!
