Golden Knights owner Bill Foley is in talks to buy Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. The Athletic's Matt Slater reports that a team led by Bill Foley recently approached Bournemouth owner Max Demin. The asking price for the club is $172 million. By comparison, Foley paid $500 million for the Vegas Golden Knights in 2016.
Bill Foley is the chairman of Fidelity National Financial, a large insurance company in the United States. American businessman with an estimated net worth of at least $1.3 billion (as of March 2022).
Should Foley take over the club, Bournemouth fans could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Bill Foley is known for his ability to achieve instant success, just as he did with the Knights. As a reminder, the Knights made it to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first season in the NHL. This season, Bournemouth have only won 2 out of 6 matches. They have also lost 3 games in a row, including a terrible 9-0 loss to Liverpool a few weeks ago.
Things couldn't have been better for Bournemouth in recent years. In 2008 they were on the verge of bankruptcy and in 2009 they were relegated from League Two. In 2015, they tried to return to the Premier League but were relegated in 2020. At the end of last season, they were promoted again. It will be interesting to see if Foley takes over at the club and if he can show a 'win now' mentality in football. For a club like Bournemouth to become one of the best, Foley will have to spend a huge amount of money. Hockey cannot be compared to football when it comes to wages, contracts and transfer fees.
