After one period, the Flyers find themselves in a less than ideal position as they trail 5-1 in Detroit. The Red Wings attacked Carter Hart early on who made his first start since December 9 as Patrick Kane notted the first two goals for Detroit.
Daniel Sprong then followed with a powerplay goal of his own as well as J.T. Compher and former Flyer Shayne Gostisbehere topped off the five piece in the first period for the Red Wings.
The few bright spots for the Flyers in the first came in a beautiful goal in transition by Bobby Brink assisted by Joel Farabee to get the Flyers on the board.
Later in the period, Flyers right wing Garnet Hathaway delivered a massive hit on Olli Maata which led to a scuffle by both teams.
