With just over month to go before the NHL seaon begins the Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes has some work to do. The Canadiens shocked the world acquiring Kirby Dach back in July at the NHL Entry Draft but have yet to sign him.

The 21 year-old is coming off his entry level contract and is a RFA currently. However, Dach could be signed at anytime according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels as Engels would give us a huge update on Dach new contract:
Sportsnet's Eric Engels reports that the Canadiens and centreKirby Dachcontinue to have discussions on a new contract with one option being a four-year deal at around $3.5 million per season.

That might be a bit steep as The New York Rangers General Manager Chris Drury recently signed forward Kaapo kakko who had very similar numbers to Dach and is the same age as Dach and was in the same Draft going 2nd overall one spot ahead of Dach.

Dach was drafted third overall by Chicago in the 2019 NHL Draft. Last season, Dach had nine goals and 17 assists in 70 games and 59 points in 152 career games.
Unfortunately Dach hasn't reached his full potential alot to do with injuries and also being on a terrible Blackhawks team who is having a fire sale trading away everyone including Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach.
However Dach knew he wasn't part of the Blackhawks plans is happy for a fresh start in Montreal and looking forward to join the other top young talent in Montreal like Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki.

"We knew we were going to rebuild there and stuff like that. But they were very open and honest with us about that stuff. And obviously they felt like they needed to go a different direction than DeBrincat and I,"Dach told the Canadian Press.

"It's a business. There's nothing else to it. You've just got to move on and I've got a great opportunity in front of me in Montreal. I'm beyond excited to get things rolling and start the next chapter in my career."
