Every year, a new list comes out containing the NHL's most valuable franchises. It is always cool to see how the value of teams can rise or fall depending on certain economic factors and factors that the teams can control.
The new list for 2022 has come out and there is a new number one. The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly back on top and are worth a staggering $2.1 billion. The Rangers held the throne in 2021, but find themselves at number two, worth $2.0 billion. The top 5 teams are all original six members, the Leafs, Rangers, Canadians, Blackhawks, and Bruins.
The bottom five teams on the list are the Sabres, Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Panthers, and Coyotes. It is clear that the value of the franchises have a direct correlation to the size of market and on ice success. The Coyotes might be able to climb the list with a new arena and fresh start, but we will have to wait until 2023 to find out.
