The idea of an NHL organization tanking their season to qualify for a first-overall pick has been debated for several years. The NHL itself has taken steps to prevent this with its NHL draft lottery, but many fans believe teams will still attempt to secure a top-five pick to build a new core of players in the 21st century.

There has been recent speculation that the Flyers will try to tank this season to position themselves for drafting Macklin Celebrini, who is believed to be the clear choice for the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft. Celebrini, a 17-year-old from Vancouver, BC, stands at 5 feet 11 inches and weighs 181 pounds.

Celebrini has stated that he is committed to playing for Boston University in the NCAA next year, which will undoubtedly help his development and prepare him for an NHL career.

While some people believe the Flyers may attempt this strategy, I don't think that's the case. Firstly, the team still boasts many stars who can contribute to their success, including Travis Konency and Carter Hart.
Secondly, it's expected that head coach John Tortorella will demand more from The Phantoms as they bring up players like Tyson Forester, Bobby Brink, and Ronnie Attard, who will play a crucial role in their development and receive ample ice time.
Lastly, the current management has been emphasizing that this will be a new era for the Flyers, and I believe they will compete as hard as they can to make it into the playoffs. Though success might not be guaranteed, they will utilize the players they have to the best of their abilities.
Time will tell how the Flyers will perform this season and where they will finish in the standings. However, I am optimistic that they will show improvement compared to last year.
