The Philadelphia Flyers have a lot to consider going into the 2023 NHL Draft, to truly kick this rebuild off. Not only deciding who to pick in the first round but who could become available to GM Danny Briere in the ladder stages of the draft.

The Flyers are in desperate need of strong defensemen who are big and will use their size on the back end. Matteo Mann fits that criteria perfectly, he is not afraid to use his size creating a big, physical right-shot defenceman. He makes life hard on the opposition battling or hitting them into the boards and not letting them squeeze by.
Despite his big stature an impressive attribute about Mann's game is his skating ability, as well as his awareness on the ice. Not only can he disturb the play with a physical hit, but he also shows that he can use his long reach to knock the puck off the opposition's stick on a consistent basis. He may not be the fastest skater but his long strides help him beat out forecheckers to the puck on dump-ins, making for a quick and easy turn around; sending the play the other way. He has good mobility that should get better as he continues to develop, especially under the Flyers new development team.
He can also be a true anchor for his defensive pairing, meaning he is rarely caught pinching down the boards instead watching behind the play to make sure he isn't caught off guard. This could work extremely well with the aggressive play style a lot of the Flyers current defensemen possess.
Based on his size and position, it is projected that Mann could very well be a top-100 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. It is pretty rare that a 6-foot-6, 220-pound 18-year-old is available in the top-100 so expect many teams to be looking into him. Hopefully that's the Flyers and GM Danny Briere can land him.
