"It's been quite the bit of drama ever since the Philadelphia Flyers acquired the rights to pending free agent Kevin Hayes. We first heard it was a lock he would sign right away because of his relationship with Alain Vigneault. Then we heard that Hayes had no interest in signing in Philly and wanted to test the market. While it's hard to verify the truth of either of those, one things for sure, the Flyers had Hayes in town last week and gave him a presentation of their plan moving forward. After making trades to land defensemen Matt Niskanen and Justin Braun, it seems Hayes might be close. NHL insider Bob McKenzie reports that there's a sense of optimism a deal will get done soon in the range of six years at $6.5million a season. Recall general manager Chuck Fletcher said he'd made a deadline of the NHL Draft (which is Friday) to get a deal done with Hayes before switching focus somewhere else.
It's not yet a done deal but PHI continues to work toward a long-term contract for pending UFA centre Kevin Hayes and, for now anyway, there's a sense of optimism. Stay tuned. Curious on the market value for Hayes. Six years at north of $6.5 million perhaps?
