Wednesday is proving to be a busy day for the Philadelphia Flyers as well as the rest of the NHL as trades are beginning to fly around the league as teams are making their final efforts to either make the finishing touches to a playoff roster, or unload expiring contracts and begin rebuilding for the future. On Wednesday, the Flyers got in on the action as they traded a top defenseman in return for a first round pick as well as a center from the Colorado Avalanche.
Johansen has had a solid year in Colorado, putting up 23 points on 13 goals and 10 assists, but with the Flyers already having solid depth at the center position, it makes sense to place Johansen on waiver wires and let any team pick him and his contract up.
