The NHL trade deadline is just weeks away and there have been plenty of discussions, rumors, and moving parts leading up to the March 8 deadline. On Thursday, a major announcement was made regarding a Flyers rival and one of the top trade targets around the league, proving to shake up some upcoming moves.

On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that 29-year-old left wing Jake Guentzel has been placed on the injured list as he is expected to miss at least four weeks, mind you, the trade deadline is only three weeks away.
"Forward Jake Guentzel has been placed on Injured Reserve. Guentzel is expected to miss up to four weeks with a projected return to the Penguins in early March."

Guentzel is one of, if not the top trade target this deadline as the 29-year-old could be a great addition to a team in contention for a cup as the Penguins look to take the next step in their organization as their stars begin to age.
The 29-year-old is still having a great season, putting up 52 points thus far on 22 goals and 30 assists. Guentzel was sure to draw a large asking price, but now with an injury who knows if a deal will even occur at all.
This also shakes things up for teams like the Flyers, who already have multiple teams showing interest in multiple players. Scott Laughton, Nick Seeler, Sean Walker, and Rasmus Ristolainen have all been names thrown around in trade talks.
With a top trade target seemingly out of the picture, will teams pursue the Flyers pieces harder?
