While awards season is still a couple of months away, writers for teams across the league have made their selection for one of the most respected awards among players. Nominees for the Bill Masterton Trophy have been made official."The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey."Philadelphia Flyers writers have chosen goalie Brian Elliott as the Flyers nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy. "It's definitely a meaningful award. It's your dedication to the game and I've always been a guy that just loves the game, loves to be at the rink and be around a team," said Elliott. "Whenever you get nominated for that, it's definitely humbling that people feel that of you - that you have that dedication towards playing hockey and doing something you love."
Elliott has had to deal with an injury once again this season but has still been able to register a 2.81 goals against average and .912 save percentage. "It was definitely a test of your mind and trying to stay positive when you had some dark days, but that's what the game is all about and that's why it's so fun and so good. It's such a challenge and when you can come out on the other side, either winning a game or overcoming an obstacle, that's the biggest joy you can get out of it."
