"Brian Elliott's start with the Philadelphia Flyers got off to a bit of a slow start, but he was the goaltender they envisioned when they signed him during their recent three-game road trip through western Canada.

Elliott started all three victories on the trip. He made 43 saves at the Calgary Flames last Monday night, 24 saves in Edmonton on Wednesday another 36 saves at the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night. He stopped 103 of the 108 eights he saw for 1.67 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage for the week.

The National Hockey League recognized Elliott's efforts by naming him the Third Star of the Week this morning.

Last week's First Star is no stranger to Flyers fans in St. Louis Blues forward Brayden Schenn. The former Flyers winger led the entire league with six goals last week and had at least one goal in each of his for games. Schenn is currently fifth in NHL in scoring with 37 points and leads the league with six game winning goals.

Schenn's teammate, goaltender Jake Allen, was named the Second Star of the Week after going 4-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA, .944 save % and a shutout last week.
