The Philadelphia Flyers and general manager Chuck Fletcher have been actively trying to trade their #11 pick in this year's draft. However it seems we're too far from the draft to get anything done.Fletcher will probably get better offers on the day of or day before the draft. It's very possible the Flyers hold on to the pick and a couple of mock drafts have the Flyers taking Matthew Boldy with the pick. What could Fletcher and Brent Flahr be planning at #11?"I think the way we look at it, we will take the best player at 11," Flahr told The Athletic. "I think as we go in the draft, we have some young defensemen that are in the NHL right now, and a couple coming, but we'd probably like to add defenseman depth to our organization going forward, whether it's at 11 or the second or third round, we will see. But again, if the best player is a left winger, we will address that."
Flahr added that during his time in Minnesota with Fletcher, they made the mistake of drafting for positional need instead of best player available. "I would say, there was a couple drafts — especially early on (in Minnesota) — where we had no forwards coming (up through the system), we had some defensemen, so I think we targeted forwards," he said. "But I think also that's a danger where you make mistakes, where you're just going for position. I think you've really got to go — especially early in the draft — go with the list, go with the best player. Your needs right now are sometimes different from when these guys are having an impact two, three years from now."
