"When Petr Mrazek was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers last month, this was his shot to cement the number one spot on a playoff team and land a big money contract somewhere during the offseason. It can be argued that he has been worse in Philadelphia than he was with the Detroit Red Wings and could be playing himself right out of the league.
Thankfully for the Flyers, Alex Lyon has played well in the little amount of time he's been given in goal. In his last six appearances, Lyon has a 1.87 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage. Those are much better than Mrazek's 3.27 goals-against average and .885 save percentage in his 12 games with the Flyers.
Lyon was very good in relief of Mrazek last night in Detroit and was the biggest reason the Flyers got the point that they did. Many feel the 25-year-old Lyon has earned the start in Thursday night's game versus the New York Rangers.
The Flyers held an optional skate this morning, which was not attended by Lyon. Mrazek and Michael Neuvirth were on the ice and the recovering Neuvirth seemed do have a better go at it today.
Who would you start on Thursday night?
Neuvy faring much better than Mrazek on 2 on 0 drills.#Flyers
