If the Flyers want to hold down a playoff spot, tonight's game in Dallas is one they must win. While the Stars are mathematically still alive for a wild card spot in the Western Conference, they have collapsed down the stretch and are as good as dead.
General manager and perennial offseason champion Jim Nill thought he had solved his goaltending problems by bringing in former Vezina Trophy finalist Ben Bishop. For much of the season this looked to be the case, but Bishop's injury problems have reared their ugly head again and he has only played five times during the month of March.
Bishop's absence has been a big factor in their late season choke job of a playoff spot as the Stars have gone 1-7-2 over their last 10 games including a 4-1 loss on home ice to the lowly Vancouver Canucks Sunday night.
Petr Mrazek will get the start in goal tonight after Alex Lyon started each of the last two games. Mrazek gave up two goals on 21 shots in relief of Lyon in the Flyers overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. He has been pulled in two of his last three starts.
