The Philadelphia Flyers will make their first ever visit to the brand new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit tonight. They enter tonight's game with an 8-2-0 record over their last 10 games and in the top Eastern Conference wild card spot. They are just one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets, who play in Vegas tonight, for third place in the Metropolitan Division.
The Red Wings have been playing better of late with six wins in their last 10 contests, but they have dug themselves too deep of a hole. They sit eight points out of a wild card spot and they trail the Toronto Maple Leafs by 12 points for third place in the Atlantic Division.
Petr Mrazek is expected to get the start in goal for Detroit tonight as he looks for his third straight shutout. He has been an all or nothing goaltender when he has gotten to play this year. He has three shutouts in his 14 games, but his 3.14 goals-against average and .904 save percentage suggests that when he isn't shutting you out he's giving up the farm.
Despite the roster move on Monday, Dave Hakstol will keep the same lineup that beat the Washington Capitals on Sunday afternoon. Brian Elliott will get the start in goal.
Claude Giroux, who has 21 points in 18 career games against the Red Wings, had three assists in the Flyers 4-3 win over Detroit back in December. They got single goals from Wayne Simmonds, Sean Couturier, Dale Weise and the first career goal from Robert Hagg.
