The Philadelphia Flyers and their fans have plenty to be excited about when it comes to young talent. From the obvious of Matvei Michkov to others like Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk, the Flyers are loaded with prospects. On Saturday night, a Philadelphia Flyers top prospect made his much anticipated debut in Lehigh Valley with the Phantoms. Despite the much anticipated debut, dreams turned to nightmares as the 21-year-old defenseman suffered an injury just shortly into the first period on Saturday night.
In the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers selected defenseman Hunter McDonald from Northeastern University. After finishing his 2023-24 NCAA season just a short bit ago, McDonald joined the Phantoms on Saturday night to make his pro debut with the Lehigh Phantoms.
In the first period, however, McDonald appeared to leave the ice as it was reported after the game that McDonald suffered a shoulder injury in his pro debut. Although injured, the severity has not been reported yet and McDonald and the Flyers are feeling confident that it is not serious.
McDonald was a solid defenseman at Northeastern with his best season coming in 2022-23 where he recorded 14 points on an impressive 13 assists. The Flyers took a chance on him in the sixth round and are hoping he can be featured on a defensive line with the Flyers in the future.
