The Philadelphia Flyers turned in one of their cleanest performances of the season yesterday afternoon as they defeated the then NHL leading Boston Bruins in a 3-2 victory that featured a stellar performance from goalie Samuel Ersson as well as massive goals from Tyson Foerster and Travis Konecny. As the Flyers earned a huge two points as they continue to try and secure a playoff spot, the Flyers are back in action tonight with another tough matchup against the Florida Panthers.
As Samuel Ersson turned in another great performance on Saturday stopping 18 shots with a .900 save percentage, the Flyers announced Sunday morning that Ersson will have the day off and Felix Sandstrom will be getting the start in goal for the Flyers tonight.
Interestingly enough, the Panthers will also be giving their number one goalie Sergei Bobrovsky the night off as Anthony Stolarz will be in the net for the Panthers as the Panthers are playing a back-to-back as well, losing to the New York Rangers in a thriller on Saturday night.
The Flyers are hoping that Sandstrom gets more comfortable as his last start Sandstrom allowed six goals in a 6-5 loss to the Boston Bruins. Sandstrom has a tremendous opportunity in front of the home crowd tonight to deliver another huge win that could have playoff implications. The Flyers beat the Panthers just two weeks ago in Florida as Garnett Hathaway netted the game winning goal with just under a minute to go.
With Sandstrom in the net, will the Flyers pull off another upset against the Panthers?
