The Philadelphia Flyers are set for a Saturday afternoon matinee against the Eastern Conference leading Boston Bruins as they hit the ice at the Wells Fargo Center at 1:00p.m. as the Flyers look to get back on track and continue their fight for the playoffs. After the Flyers recently fell short a week ago against the Bruins 6-5 after mounting a hard fought comeback, the Flyers get a chance for revenge this afternoon. Hours before game time, the Flyers and head coach John Tortorella finalized their lineup before they take the ice, including who will be in between the pipes.
As the Flyers hit the ice a few hours before warmups, goalie
Samuel Ersson was one of the first members on the bench, indicating that he is most likely to get the start against the Bruins.
Despite having two rough games the last two weeks against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs, Ersson has still proved he deserves rookie of the year nominations as he has been able to keep the Flyers in some meaningful games, including most recently on Friday night when the Flyers went toe-to-toe with the Carolina Hurricanes on the road before ultimately falling in overtime 3-2.
Currently, Ersson sits with a 20-14-6 record on the year with an .898 save percentage and a 2.68 GAA and three shutouts, which is encouraging considering that Ersson was thrusted into the starting role due to the Carter Hart situation. Some even have talked about Ersson in the rookie of the year conversation.
The Flyers need Ersson now more than ever as the standings in the Metro Division get tighter and tighter with the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders on their heels. Interestingly enough, the Flyers play the Capitals in the last regular season game of the year on April 16 in Philadelphia, that is setting up to have massive playoff implications.
