"Philadelphia Flyers general manager loves to have as many draft picks as possible come June and he just acquire another on Wednesday afternoon.
News broke that the Flyers have traded the rights to 2015 sixth-round pick Cooper Marody to the Edmonton Oilers for their 2019 third-round pick. In his junior year at the University of Michigan, Marody led the entire Big Ten conference in scoring with 46 points (14 G, 32 A) in 37 games.
Marody is expected to return to Michigan for his senior season and this could be a sign the Hextall wasn't sure that he could sign him in a year. Regardless, he turned a prospect taken in the sixth-round who might not crack the NHL in the Flyers current system for a future pick three rounds earlier.
This will give the Flyers two third-round picks in 2019 as long as they do not re-sign Petr Mrazek, which seems highly unlikely right now.
#Flyers have traded rights to prospect Cooper Marody (Michigan) to #Oilers in exchange for 2019 3rd round pick (prev. held by #njdevils). Marody was 6th round pick in 2015 by PHI, led Big Ten in scoring this season, joining Zach Hyman and Kyle Connor as Wolverines to do so.
