The Philadelphia Flyers 2023-2024 season is officially over. There was no Cinderella Post season appearance for the team this year. Instead they have missed the playoffs for the 4th straight season. Head Coach John Tortorella and GM Danny Briere met with the media for their end of season press conference and had some things to say that might surprise some fans after what many consider a successful season for the Orange and Black despite not making the playoffs.
This is not altogether surprising when you look at the current state of the team. They do not have an answer at Goaltender once again. Sam Ersson had a great season but fizzled out at the end due to over-usage. The Powerplay was dead last in the league, for a third straight season. They are packed with young talent, but with that young talent comes the undeniable growing pains. Their best prospect can't play in the NHL for another 2 years.
Right now this isn't the place Star Free Agents are lining up to come to. However no matter all of this, the Flyers are in a much better spot this year, than they were last year. GM Danny Briere should be commended on the job he has done in his first full year. Keeping his eye on the long term goal of making this team a perennial contender down the road. The Flyers have one of the best prospect pools in the NHL and the kids are going to grow up fast. It's going to be an exciting couple years and we think Briere was smart to remind fans, we had a great year, but there is still a lot of work to do!
