Since the season started in the KHL, Flyers top prospect and 2023 first round pick Matvei Michkov has put up insane numbers, having one of the most historic seasons in KHL history and receiving comparisons to guys like Evgeni Malkin who came up in the KHL. Michkov is showing why the Flyers had the guts to draft him in the top ten, despite his obligations to Russia for the first few seasons. Sunday afternoon Michkov gave Flyers fans another impressive display with a crazy highlight-reel goal.
In the second period of Sochi's matchup, the game was knotted at 0-0 waiting for someone to break the seal. Seven minutes into the period, Michkov answered the calling delivering a nasty wrap-around and tuck goal for his 18th goal on the year.
Michkov fielded the puck behind the goal, made a difficult backhand pass to his teammate, and came upon the glove side of the goalie, and was able to find inches of open space as he tucked the puck below the goalie, giving Sochi a 1-0 lead.
Since returning from missing over a month with pneumonia, Michkov has shown no signs of slowing down or illness as he has added to his historic season, compiling 40 points in 48 games, with 18 goals and 22 assists.
