Friday night was an emotional one for Flyers right wing Garnet Hathaway as he returned to Washington DC to take on his former team in the Washington Capitals where he spent four of his past six seasons, seeing the best year of his career with the Capitals in 2021. His return to the nations capital was nothing short of entertaining as he dropped gloves with his former teammate.
Garnet Hathaway's return started off as all love as he was greeted with signs of "welcome back" and "thank you Garnet" that lined the glass during pregame warmups. The love and affection was quickly forgotten about by the third period as Hathaway dropped gloves with former teammate Tom Wilson.
Although it may have been a friendly tilt, both Wilson and Hathaway did not hold back as Hathaway dropped Wilson to the ground quickly as Wilson delivered some shots after he got up too.
During his time in Washington, Hathaway amassed 257 games played while recording 76 points, with his best season coming in 2021-22 when Hathaway notched a career high 26 points in 76 games.
Despite the heart and fight that Hathaway showed, it didn't quite light a spark that Hathaway hoped it would in the Flyers as they ultimately proceeded to fall behind 5-2 to their division rivals.
Hathaway and the Flyers will be right back in action tomorrow as they look for redemption as they welcome Claude Giroux and the Ottawa Senators to the Wells Fargo Center in Philly.
