"The Philadelphia Flyers lost defenseman Matt Niskanen to retirement earlier this offseason and it's left a big hole on the blueline. General manager Chuck Fletcher immediately re-signed Justin Braun so they didn't end up with two big holes. We heard that the Flyers were expected to be in on Alex Pietrangelo however it doesn't seem they've been able to make the trade to free up some cap space. Even though according to Frank Seravalli, Travis Konecny is on the trade block. Now Flyers insider Bill Meltzer reports that the Flyers are one of the teams negotiating with free agent defenseman TJ Brodie. Brodie has played the last couple of years in Calgary and would bring a reliable veteran presence on the blueline at an affordable price.
Per @FriedgeHNIC, the Flyers are among the teams in on TJ Brodie. The fit makes sense in terms of him being a right-side D (though a left-handed shooter) who plays 20+ mins a night, kills penalties, skates well and moves the puck.
