"The Philadelphia Flyers are geared up and ready for the upcoming 2020-21 NHL season. Unfortunately general manager Chuck Fletcher didn't really do much this offseason. The team was caught off guard when Matt Niskanen announced his retirement and it seems that since then Fletcher was handcuffed and didn't get much done. Philly needs help offensively if they want to do something significant this season and nobody was brought in to help with that. All hope might not be dead though. We heard earlier this offseason that the Flyers could have a chance at landing Winnipeg Jets young sniper Patrik Laine and according to Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philly, the Flyers are still in the mix. It's clear that Laine and the Jets don't exactly see their relationship as mutually beneficial and Laine's agents have publicly stated that a breakup would be best for both sides. Hall reports that a source close to the situation says there's still very strong interest from the Flyers and let's not forget NHL insider Pierre LeBrun confirmed that the Flyers and Jets have held trade talks back in October about Laine. However as Hall points out, it's not going to be an easy trade to pull off as Laine is due a new contract next year and the Flyers also have to sign Carter Hart and Travis Sanheim. If Fletcher can make the math work this year, things could fall into place down the line for the Flyers as both Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier will be UFA in 2022, plenty would like to see the Flyers move on from Giroux. While Flyers' fans would love to get Laine for Shayne Gostisbehere and some picks, it will likely take one of Ivan Provorov or Philippe Myers.
The interest in Patrik Laine, no change on Mike Hoffman and more in three Flyers thoughts. https://t.co/B8jxrLEfW7
