NHL star set to make return after life threatening injury

In many cases, sometimes injuries and health struggles go beyond sports. Whether it's NFL star Eric Berry battling cancer during the prime of his career or MLB pitcher Liam Hendricks making a return after receiving chemotherapy, stories of athletes making comebacks after battling life threatening health issues can capture fans across the world.
Most recently, Carolina Hurricanes goalie
Frederik Andersen was forced to step away from hockey in early November after he was diagnosed with a deep-vein thrombosis and subsequent pulmonary embolisms.
Less than three months removed from hockey, Andersen and the Hurricanes gave hockey fans across the world the heartwarming news that Andersen has been cleared to make a return to on ice activities.

Although it is unexpected when Andersen will return to game action, Andersen making the first step towards his return and being able to practice and get back on the ice with his teammates is a fantastic sign.
"I am thrilled that I'm a step closer to joining my teammates and competing on the ice. I feel grateful for the help and support I have received from my family and doctors, as well as the Hurricanes organization."
Andersen is one of the most seasoned vets in the NHL, gaining experience between the pipes since 2013 as he has played for the Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs, before playing the last three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Andersen's best season came in 2017-18 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, winning 38 games with a .918 save percentage. Andersen was a key member for the Hurricanes last season as they made a deep playoff run as Andersen won 21 games with a .903 save percentage.
