The Philadelphia Flyers season is winding down and the Flyers head coach John Tortorella just confirmed big news. After practice Monday, John Tortorella had a press conference and confirm that the Flyers did discuss Carter Hart off ice legal situation and prepared to not have Carter Hart with the team.
Torts confirmed that the #Flyers were prepared to possibly lose Carter Hart:
"Things got thrown into a really weird situation when we lost Carter, but having said that, we had discussions in the summer about the situation with Carter & figured something was gonna go on."
There were trade rumors of Carter Hart last offseason, so this makes sense now as the Flyers were working through all possibilities with Hart. Carter Hart left the team in January as he went on indefinite leave, he has since been charged with sexual assault in Canada and is now awaiting trial.
The Flyers were clearly prepared to lose Hart during the regular season but due to this, Samuel Ersson, was forced to play almost every night. Which Tortorella also confirmed that he made that decision due to lack of confidence in the backups. Hopefully next year, the Flyers can find a backup that they have trust in when their name is called.
