As the trade deadline approaches and teams decide whether they are "buyers or sellers", one team is in an interesting position as they have many decisions to make regarding expiring contracts on their roster. That team would be none other than Philadelphia Flyers bitter rivals; the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins have many decisions to make, starting with franchise star left-wing Jake Guentzel. As Guentzel turns 29, his contract is set to expire this summer, making him a free agent. With the Penguins in limbo of the Playoffs, it will be interesting to see what the Penguins and GM Kyle Dubas does in the next 50 days.
After much speculation, Dubas made it extremely clear Wednesday night that Pittsburgh has not spoken to any teams regarding Guentzel and he wants to keep it at that.

"We haven't had any conversations with any other teams about Jake, so anything that's out there is pure speculation. That's really as simple as that. We'll continue to go through the season here and I'll continue to evaluate where we're at, and then either at the All-Star break or after the season, we'll do what's best for everybody - best for the Penguins, best for Jake - and we'll determine that together.
At 29, Guentzel has still been productive for the Pens as he has recorded 19 goals and 46 points in 42 games thus far. No matter where Guentzel ends up, he will go down as one of Pittsburgh's all-time greats, coming up huge as a rookie during the Pens 2017 Stanley Cup Championship run.
