Time is ticking and teams are seemingly on the clock as Monday marks the start of another week that is closer to the March 8 NHL trade deadline. As veteran teams look to add some last minute talent with aspirations of a Stanley Cup run, one Philadelphia Flyers center has ironically been the "center" of attention for some general managers this trade deadline. After already have receiving calls, Flyers GM Danny Briere now has two more teams checking in on this Flyer.
As the center market remains somewhat slim this trade deadline compared to years past, Flyers veteran center and former first round pick Scott Laughton has had some serious traction from around the league the past few weeks. With multiple teams being rumored to have been interested in Laughton, two new teams joined the mix on Sunday.
The Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs are both interested in Laughton and have had conversations with Briere and the Flyers over the 29-year-old. Despite the interest, Danny Briere is staying firm on his asking price for Laughton, which remains to be a first round pick according to a number of sources.
Netting a first round pick for Laughton could be massive for the Flyers, especially considering the extra cap relief the Flyers received for the Carter Hart situation. Both Toronto and Edmonton make sense as Laughton would be a great second or third line addition to compliment guys like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl for the Oilers and Auston Matthews and William Neylander in Toronto.
After a great performance on Saturday night netting the Flyers first goal of the game, the talk, traction, and stock of Laughton is only expected to rise.
