The two weeks have been quite the roller coaster for Philadelphia Flyers top prospect and 2023 first round pick Matvei Michkov. From making a return to the ice after a month long battle with pneumonia to being benched in the same week, Michkov has had to overcome a great deal of adversity as of late. On Tuesday, Michkov showed just how special he can be and how he handles adversity.

After being taken out of a game in the third period and then benched the very next game, Matvei Michkov had, sort of, his first sign on struggle in the KHL with Team Sochi. On Tuesday, Michkov made his return to the lineup and gave Flyers fans plenty to be excited for.
In Sochi's win, Michkov contributed a goal and an assist as he returned to the starting lineup. Michkov's goal was one for the highlight reels as he received a long pass from his goalie at center ice, took it all the way in and made a shifty move to beat the goaltender and find the back of the net.

Despite the incredibly high expectations and the battle with pneumonia, Michkov is still living up to the standards and is having one of the best KHL seasons in recent history, with 35 points in 40 games on 20 assists and 15 goals. Michkov is etching his name up there in KHL history with guys like Evgeni Kuznetsov, Kirill Kaprizov, and Eeli Tovanan.
No matter how people want to measure it, one thing everyone can agree on is that Michkov has that star factor and could be a franchise altering player for the Philadelphia Flyers.
