Alex Ovechkin reacts for the first time to the war in Ukraine

Some people wanted Alex Ovechkin to react publicly to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Why ? Because Ovechkin showed in the past his appreciation of Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, notably by starting a social movement and a website that helped rally support Putin.
Today, in a press conference, the Capitals captain reacted for the first time on this crisis by issuing an anti-war statement.
"Please, no more war. It doesn't matter who is in the war -Russia, Ukraine, different countries - we have to live in peace," says Alex Ovechkin. "It is a hard situation. You know, I have lots of friends in Russia and Ukraine and it is hard to see the war. Like, I hope soon it is going to be over."
