You know it. I know it. We all know it.
Claude Giroux's adventure in Philadelphia is coming to an end. Yeah, it's sad, but Chuck Fletcher would be silly to not trade the 34 year old forward. The Flyers will not make the playoffs, Giroux was an All-Star this year, and since his contract is ending this summer : it makes the forward very attracting for contending teams.
And he could still sign a new contract with the Flyers this summer...
However, with the trade deadline being not so far away from here on, it's going to be interesting to see what the Flyers will get in return of Giroux.
Must read on FlyersInsider
Brandon Sommermann, from The Brotherly Bullies, wrote a very interesting piece regarding a possible Giroux trade to Colorado.
For him, the most realistic trade including the forward between the two teams would be as followed : Philadelphia trades Claude Giroux (with 50% salary retained) and a 4th round pick in 2022 to Colorado for
Tyson Jost, prospect Sampo Ranta and a 1st round pick in 2023.
What's interesting about this proposal is the amount of salary retained by Philly. Chuck Fletcher could use it in order to get more assets in return of his player.
Giroux has a 8.2M$ cap hit.
And considering the fact that most of the teams in the midst of playoffs contention don't have a lot of space, it's something that would make sense.
Four your information, Sampo Ranta is a decent prospect. He played 10 games this season in the NHL, and has 10 points in 29 games with the Colorado Eagles since the start of the year. But the most important piece here is the 2023 1st round pick. Next year draft is going to be pretty good and deep, which is not particularly the case of this year's draft. And about Tyson Jost, he will have the opportunity to prove that he can be an offensive player at the NHL level.
At the end of the day, Claude Giroux will have the last call, as he has a no-movement clause attached to his contract.
I'd say yes to this deal. And you ?
