Another promise that Fletcher won't keep

It's the Flyers' intention to use this offseason to rebuild the team. The departure of Giroux marks the end of an era and it's time to let the young gems take over. GM Chuck Fletcher seems to be heading in that direction, after bringing Owen Tippett aboard, the Flyers signed lots of young players in the last week.

However, Philadelphia have been struggling for years with their players and it's not something you can turnover in the blink of an eye. Flyers need some attacking talents, and they need more than just a few signings. Fletcher will want to bring home some NHL-ready talents that will be able to take the team to the playoffs.
This «aggressive retool» promised by Chuck Fletcher is a good thing because it will bring lots of fresh talents to the team. But to bring quality players, the Flyers either need to trade the few good ones they have left or to offer expensive salaries, which they can't because there's no more cap space available.
Rebuilding quickly to be competitive next season is not the most viable option in the long term for a team like the Flyers. They should be focusing on bringing aboard new talents through draft picks, but not by letting go of quality players like Ivan Provorov or Travis Sanheim. A rebuild is a long operation that you can't rush. The Blackhawks did it in the 2000's and it paid off so why not do the same and play the long game?
