The NHL hosted a meeting containing the board of governors throughout the league, multiple topics were brought up, from a potential 33rd team meaning another expansion franchise all the way to 3 on 3 overtime potentially being eliminated.
Another idea from the meeting was leaked by insider Chris Johnston and this one is quite unusual, it was discussed that we may see bottom of the league teams play in a mini tournament in the near future to determine who gets the first overall pick.
Chris Johnston on Insider Trading says one thing discussed a little at the BOG meetings was to have teams at the bottom of the standings play a series of games for the 1st overall pick, which would eliminate that draft lottery. Little chance of it happening, but it was discussed.

This is quite hard to imagine, as the winner of the mini tournament would get the first overall pick- but shouldn't it be the worst franchise that is most deserving of it?
This was just a proposed idea that we may see more discussion of in the future, but would change the NHL in many ways..
