Sean Couturier, a name that Flyers fans sure love, but haven't heard much of recently. Couturier's last game played was October 15th in the 2021-22 season, where he only played 29-games before enduring a season-ending injury.
Since, we have yet to get many updates that are true regarding Couturier's health. One false update we and the Flyers media did receive was at the start of this season, when Chuck Fletcher stated Kevin Hayes, Cam Atkinson and Sean Couturier would be ready for opening night, none of those names were, and Atkinson/Couturier have yet to take the ice this season.
Atkinson has reportedly endured an injury many have not seen before, and isn't expected to play again this season as he has yet to practice or skate consistently on his own. Couturier is very much in the same boat, he has not been seen skating many times, but a good sign was seen at the Flyers morning skate this (Thursday) morning.
Good to see Sean Couturier is back skating. We hadn't seen him on the ice in Voorhees for quite a while prior to the team's most recent road trip.
Must read on FlyersInsider
While it is a good sign, the Flyers should not rush Couturier back this season, the Flyers medical staff has been a mess, and we do not need Couturier cleared for play as the Flyers will not be seeing playoff hockey anytime soon.
With regards to Couturier, PHI absolutely should treat his injury recovery process with the utmost caution. It's not like rushing him back is going to push them into the playoff mix.
But I'm not reflexively opposed to bringing him back in for a few games IF he's fully cleared. If Couturier comes back for a bit this season -- still very much an unknown at this point -- he won't be SEAN COUTURIER. He hasn't played since Dec '21, & surely he's nowhere near peak game shape.
But if there's little re-injury risk, I'd be fine letting him knock some rust off.
