As the trade deadline looms, the shortlist of defenders is getting smaller and smaller. Josh Manson was recently traded to the Colorado Avalanche and Ben Chiarot to the panthers. With not many options left, Hampus Lindholm is most likely the next to be moved, should a team be able to afford his huge asking price.

Reported by the three most reliable NHL insiders, Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger, Lindholm will not play tonight as the Ducks look to protect trade assets.
Friedman said early this morning that talks between Lindholm and the Ducks camp have stopped.
«Hearing that talks between ANA and Hampus Lindholm did not result in an extensionDucks are now preparing to trade him.»

This comes as a surprise especially considering the Ducks just moved defenceman Josh Manson recently.
«Source says Hampus Lindholm won't play tonight. Will be held out as the Ducks focus on a trade for him,» said LeBrun on Twitter.
The Ducks got a return of high end prospect Drew Helleson and a second rounder for Manson at fifty percent retained. After the Chiarot deal however, they may feel a bit undone by the Avalanche and with many teams still desperately needing help on the blueline, Dreger believes a similar deal is what they are eyeing.
«A few teams continue to digest a steep asking price for Hampus Lindholm. There's always wiggle room, but the current ask is a 1st, a 3rd and a top prospect. Likely some spin off from the Chiarot trade to Florida.»
LeBrun also notes on TSN insider trading that the Bruins, who were interested in Manson and the St. Louis Blues as potential teams with enough assets to make a deal happen.
28-year old Lindholm has 5 goals and 17 assists through 61 games played this year.
