If you did follow a little bit of the IIHF tournaments in the recent years, you should be aware of former IIHF President Rene Fasel (close) affinity for Russia. And he demonstrated that recently, by saying that Finland won the Olympic Gold Medal game against ROC thanks to "defensive grip and a bit of luck".

"We saw what the future of hockey will be like when you win championships and medals with defence (...) The final was not particularly spectacular, and certainly not as interesting as the semi-final between Russia and Sweden. It was the defensive grip and a bit of luck that won the Finns the gold, and we must congratulate them on that. But the Russians still played a good tournament, silver is also an Olympic medal," said Rene Fasel.

Reactions from Finland didn't take long to come. Jarmo Kekalainen, GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets, declared that with these comments, Fasel "clearly demonstrated his incompetence in understanding the great game of hockey."
Alexander Stubb, former Finnish Prime Minister, also reacted to Rene Fasel statement. For Stubb, the ex-IIHF president is "an embarrassment and (a) disgrace to the great sport of ice hockey."
