Last night, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms took on the Cleveland Monsters in a 2-1 OT loss. This was a crucial team for the Phantoms as they look to chase down a playoff spot.
In this contest, Cam York was the standout player and showed good signs of his development since returning to the AHL. Tony Androckitis, AHL reporter for insideAHLhockey, notes York's improvement and quick thinking in the third period.
"Plays like this! Reading the play, joining the rush & getting open for a Grade-A," he continued. "This is EXACTLY what you want to see from Cam York in this 3rd period."
Although known for his defensive awareness and anticipation, what Flyers fans and GM Chuck Fletcher want to see must be this. Jumping up in the play with pace, exploiting the ice given to him and getting a quick shot on net.
Other positive points according to Androckitis are that the Phantoms are only just two points out of a playoff spot.
"If you're taking a positive out of tonight's game for- besides a standout performance from Cam York IMO - it's this: Phantoms 2pts out of final playoff spot in Atlantic Division."
Since the Flyers are most likely missing the postseason. Let's hope the youngsters get some playoff ice time in the AHL.
