Cates Boys thrive; Sandstrom strong: Takeaways from the First preseason game

The stage was set for the Flyers vs. Bruins in the first preseason game of 2022-2023. A glimpse into the future with seeing a ton of younger players and a goaltender that is pushing for a backup role to Carter Hart. A game that was full of toughness, penalties and powerplays, questionable calls and some good passing. A real good look at both teams and especially a good look at the Flyers youth. Something that will be a huge focus for the early part of this season. A lot to take away from this game so let's get into it.
one, two, three, Fight!
The rough stuff was in full effect in this one. The difference between these fights were, they came when another player was in need. Defending your teammates is everything and something that hasn't been seen from the Flyers. Wade Allison is the first tilt up. Wasn't much of a swing fest but just to see Wade out there and getting involved was important. That being said, Hayden Hodgson delivers a few bombs in his fight. Both players were throwing lefts and rights and the fans let them know they were there. Nothing wrong with a couple of good fight to defend your teammates.

Sandstrom storms
A huge positive in this game is the play of goaltender Felix Sandstrom. Coming up with huge saves throughout the game. Even though he played a really good game, Sandstrom lacked in rebound possession. Lots of second chances for the Bruins and essentially made his job more difficult. That being said, he still had an incredible game and is making a big case for the backup role with the Philadelphia Flyers opening roster. Sandstrom's relief also had some quality saves as well.

What more can we say about the "Brotherly Love Connection" of Noah and Jackson Cates. Both players each earn a goal tonight and continue to show success within the organization. Impressive preseason for both players and it's difficult to not consider keeping both players.
