The Philadelphia Flyers have had another terrible season under the reign of Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher. Since being named the Gm back on December 3rd 2018, the Flyers have made the playoffs once back in 2020.
Fletcher has slowly trying to rebuild this franchise after trading away captain Claude Giroux at last year's NHL trade deadline day, however, this year Fletcher dropped the ball with trading Zach MacEwen to the Los Angeles Kings for Brendan Lemieux and a 2023 5th round pick, that was Fletcher's biggest transaction Friday afternoon, and it was not anything special.
All the media was asking about in a post trade deadline press conference was what's up with the James Van Riemsdyk trade botch?
TSN's Hockey Insider Pierre Lebrun would explain what happened:
Must read on FlyersInsider
"Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher says he didn't receive a firm offer from any team'' on JVR. Says they spoke with one team about a trade concept. But it was conditional on that team making another move. And that move didn't happen. Worked the market hard past few weeks but no fit."
Fletcher was also ask with the season the Flyers are having is he worried about his Job?
Fletcher: "I'm not worried about my job. Whatever happens with me, will happen with me. That's up to Dave Scott. But everything I do is about doing what's right for the Philadelphia Flyers, & not taking shortcuts. And that's in part why we didn't make any more deals today."
- Chuck Fletcher
Fletcher also dropped the ball during free agency last year with the number one player available, Johnny Gaudreau, who wanted to come to the Philadelphia Flyers and sign long-term and Fletcher didn't make it happen. I think it's time we find a new General Manager that's willing to do whatever it takes to put a playoff team together in Philadelphia again.
